Reel Cowboys of the Santa Susanas -- Tom Keene


Tom Keene (1896 – 1963) was an American cowboy actor who was best known for his roles in B-Westerns between the early 1930s through the 1940s.

In the 1950s, he moved on to television with guest roles on "The Range Rider", "Buffalo Bill, Jr.", "Fury" and "Judge Roy Bean."

    I stumbled upon your fabulous blog while researching an old photo I'd just purchased - what a wonderful resource! Your grandsons are very fortunate...

    So, my photo is of a cowboy holding 2 babies and a six-shooter in an old black gesso frame, Art Nouveau style. The paper on the back of the frame is definitely old, darkened by age & brittle.

    The odd thing about my pic is the background is sepia but the figure is in black & white, with a bit of obvious retouching on the infant's hands; almost looks like a composite. Could it have been some sort of publicity shot? The visible area measures 13"h by 10"w...
